ANOTHER RIVER TO make a remarkable recovery in recent years, and with the help of a hatchery to jump start the run, is England’s River Tyne. The fishing is reported to be quite bouyant this summer, helped by some releases from Kielder reservoir, and the river now holds a good stock of salmon and sea-trout.
The Haughton Castle and Barrasford beats are on opposite banks to each other and both have availability from now until the end of the season.
Haughton Castle has rods in August, which can be productive for sea-trout, and two rods for 1 to 3 September. Contact: braithwaite@ukonline.co.uk
Barrasford is a 2-rod beat and has availability scattered throughout September and October on Thursdays and Fridays. What a great way to begin a very long weekend! Contact: aidanpollard@hotmail.co.uk
